I have ‘worked out” off and on for almost my entire adult life. Many people can relate to the yoyo style of committing to a regimen only to lose interest not long after beginning. Rinse and repeat. Until I saw the work of Ido Portal back in 2019. Immediately, I was hooked on the philosophy and the type of training that was involved. I began training on my own immediately and I haven’t stopped since. I have a small amount of experience in a couple martial arts like capoeira and kung fu. These disciplines helped me understand what it takes to progress in one’s own training and how much time one must put in. After many months of training under what I thought was the “Ido Portal Method” with help from videos and online resources, I realized that this training was something entirely different than anything else I had ever attempted before.
This regimen is not a “get a six pack in six weeks” type of thing. It’s also not something you achieve a black belt in or mastery. After going through the first couple months of training on my own, I experienced slow progress due to the difficulty of the work and minor injuries. I sought out online support and began training with the help of an online coach when the pandemic began in 2020. I learned very quickly just how much I did not know and set out to train many hours a day. Along the path, minor injuries started to become a part of the training. This is when I realized that I wanted to find a community of movement practitioners and more specific, a teacher who understood the philosophy and who was also a practitioner.
Enter Chicago Movement. Since day one, the rehab and the training I have been doing with Jose has been incredibly effective. When I arrived at Chicago Movement, I had a pretty bad back injury that I suffered during online training. Jose helped me not only overcome the injury, but he also helped me bounce back stronger than ever before. And this was only the start. Jose’s knowledge, patience and understanding of movement training was everything I was looking for and so much more. He brings so much to the experience and I am truly grateful for. Jose has cultivated an amazing community of practitioners at Chicago Movement that really has evolved into a great group of positive, like minded people who look to help each other. I wouldn’t want to train anywhere else.
